From picking up litter to planting community gardens, thousands of Philadelphians take actions big and small every single day to keep our communities clean and green. So a few months ago, we teamed up with our friends Recyclebank and the Philadelphia Streets Department to amplify and reward those actions – and have some fun, too.

We launched a social media campaign encouraging Philadelphians to post a picture of themselves taking a green action, using the hashtag #KeepPhillyBeautiful. And then we selected five participants at random to receive a free monthly SEPTA pass.

The campaign ended on December 31st at midnight, and we are so thrilled to announce that over 200 Philadelphians participated and showed us how they #KeepPhillyBeautiful. Thousands more viewed the gallery of submitted images.

Studies show that social media users are more likely to take an action if they see their friends and followers doing so, and we began this project with the hope that we could do our part to encourage greener living through great new tools like twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. And Philadelphia, as usual you inspired us with your enthusiasm and all that you do to #KeepPhillyBeautiful.

Keep Philadelphia Beautiful combed through all of the pictures and picked out just a few of our favorites below. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do, and that they inspire you to do one thing a day to #KeepPhillyBeautiful. They certainly inspire us.
