March: It s time to start planning for the Cleaning Season

As February comes to a close, many communities will begin to prepare for spring and summer clean ups. The city needs a dedicated force of citizens willing to get their hands dirty to make our cleaner, we need to keep in mind a that budget issues have created the need for more coordination in this area.

With the elimination of citywide SPECIAL Saturday collections, neighborhood clean ups will need to coordinate schedules with the Block Captain cleaning schedule or have a place to store the trash until it can be collected on the following Monday. Below are the scheduled clean up days for neighborhoods by police district.

The elimination of bulk collection will also be a challenge to overcome. No, bulk items, such as, appliances and other metal household items, including automotive tires, will no longer be collected at curbside. Tires and white metal bulk items, such as, refrigerators, washers, dryers, etc. will have to be disposed of privately or taken to one of Sanitation Convenience Centers. Residents may continue to set out compactable furniture, such as, sofas, mattresses, etc. for collection at curbside, up to two items per week.

Sanitation Convenience Centers

Sanitation Convenience Centers are also available for residents. These locations accept for disposal rubbish, recyclables, bulk items, or tires. Residents may drive their personal vehicles (vehicles with a gross weight under 6,000 pounds accepted only) to the centers to deposit their items. Please note that all relevant regulations on limits and types of materials still apply. All locations are open Monday through Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., except on City holidays.
