School Recycling
Creating a Collection Plan
There are 3 facets to a student-run collection plan that should be considered: collecting from each classroom and general areas; collecting from each floor; and collection monitoring.
Classroom Collection
Each classroom is equipped with a blue waste-paper sized bin. Only paper should be deposited into this bin. Daily this collection point should be monitored and dumped into a larger collection bin located on each building floor.
Floor collection
A larger 32 gallon bin should be visibly located on each building floor. The bin should be lined with clear plastic bags for set out. Daily classroom collection should be deposited into the larger floor bins. The floor collection team should monitor the floor bins daily for contamination.
Monitoring Collection
School recycling will start with paper collection only. Almost all paper can be recycled including. Notebook paper, construction paper, newspaper, homework paper, phone books, computer paper and cardboard can be collected by the students. There is one exception, paper soiled by food or other fluids should not be included in recycling. Daily students should make sure there is no soiled paper or other materials including other recyclables mixed in with the paper. Additionally, floor bins should be monitored for contamination from hallway traffic.
