School Recycling
Program Requirements
Below is an outline of what your school must do in order to achieve a successful School Recycling Program.
- School must be in the Philadelphia School District
- School should have the Principal and at least 3 teachers committed to support the program
- Students and staff attend recycling presentations by Streets department and/or partner organizations
- School should post highly visible recycling directions, information and bins where appropriate throughout the building
- Each building floor must have a collection plan in place
- School general areas must have a collection plan in place
- Must have a system for monitoring contamination
- School should plan an official kick-off day for the Recycling Program to begin; include families members and community groups if possible
- Classrooms should plan a weekly assignment addressing ways to reuse, recycle, and reduce waste the environment leading up to kick off day
