School Recycling
Monitoring Single Stream Collection
Paper
Almost all paper can be recycled including. Notebook paper, construction paper, newspaper, homework paper, phone books, computer paper and cardboard can be collected by the students. There is one exception, paper soiled by food or other fluids should not be included in recycling.
Metal
Tin (soup) and aluminum (soda) cans are recyclable. Make sure all fluids are emptied out of the containers before they are added to the collection bin.
Plastic
Only plastic marked as 1-7 are eligible for collection. This includes most juice and soda bottles. The numbers are normally marked in the plastic at the bottom of the container. Again make sure any fluids are empties out of the contained before adding to the collection bin.
Daily students should make sure there are no other materials including food, candy wrappers, hardcover books or any other non-recyclables in the bins. Additionally, floor bins should be monitored for contamination from hallway traffic.
MOST IMPORTANT: All containers should be emptied of liquids before going into the recycling bin.
