In 2003 the City of Philadelphia started planting young trees to beautify our neighborhoods: 7,000 were planted in six months along city streets, at recreation centers, in new housing developments, in formerly vacant lots and in parks. Today, as part of Mayor Nutter’s TreePhilly program established to advance his goal of making Philadelphia the greenest municipality in the nation, the City has planted over 100,000 new trees.
