November 15, 2020 – Today is America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day and community-driven awareness event dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on the amount of waste Philadelphians generate at home, how our personal actions can impact city recycling services, and how important it is for our mental and physical health to have litter-free outdoor public spaces.

You’re probably been participating in America Recycles Day,

you just didn’t know it. If you have a recycling bin in your household and every member of your household knows how to recycle properly, you’ve taken the first step to commit to recycling and educating others!  You can find details on how to get a recycling bin here and what can go in your bin in Philly here

If you have items you’d like to recycle but don’t see them listed as an accepted material, try this helpful recycling donation finder tool, created by the City of Philadelphia, Green Philly, and the Resource Exchanges.

Planning on having a live tree for Christmas this year? Last year, trees were able to be dropped off at the City’s sanitation convenience centers and at select locations in neighborhoods.  We’re waiting to find out what tree recycling will look like this year, so keep an eye on this page for the most up to date information.

Support Better Recycling and Cleaner Streets in Philadelphia

From now through the end of the year, KPB has set out to raise $10,000 to support our recycling and waste outreach and education programs.

These programs include online public-ed campaigns, virtual lessons that parents and teachers can access, and providing assistance to Philly residents and businesses in keeping their streets and business corridors clean and safe. Your donation helps to ensure KPB’s success in early 2021, and no amount is too small.

Donations can be made to KPB’s PayPal here or e-mail info@keepphiladelphiabeautiful.org for more information on how to support our programs.
