We believe that community beautification leads to healthier, safer and more economically vibrant neighborhoods. We work to build a cleaner and greener Philadelphia.
Beautiful neighborhoods are healthier to live in, attract commercial activity, and encourage tourism. Gardens, illegal-graffiti abatement, tree plantings, and litter cleanups have a positive effect on how a neighborhood is perceived. Keep Philadelphia Beautiful provides community service opportunities and community micro-grants in partnership with neighborhood organizations throughout the City.
Litter Prevention and Education
Litter is both a result of and harmful to people, and it affects the environment, economy, and public health. Keep Philadelphia Beautiful spearheads and supports community cleanups, organizes quarterly Litter Convenings that engage local stakeholders to take collective action, participates in committee work with the Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet, and partners with the School District of Philadelphia to provide free classroom workshops to teachers and students.
Recycling and Waste Reduction
Every year, Philadelphians dispose of nearly 1.5 million tons of commercial and residential waste. Garbage isn’t something most of us think about every day, but our choices around consumption and disposal can have unintended environmental and economic impacts. We partner with the Philadelphia Streets Department to educate and support residential recycling programs. Our environmental education program with the School District also emphasizes the “three R’s” that come before recycling: Refuse, Reduce, and Reuse.
