Reuse at it’s best: Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia’s ReStore Program

If you follow us on twitter and facebook, you know that we’re all about giving objects a second life. Which is just one of the many reasons why we love Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia and their ReStore Program! The ReStore is a second-hand retail outlet that accepts lightly used home furnishings, furniture, and building materials and sells them back to the public at a fraction of the cost. All of the proceeds flow back into Habitat’s Philadelphia Homebuilding and Weatherization & Home Repair Programs, which benefits thousands of Philadelphia residents. In the past year alone, ReStore has diverted over 275 tons of waste from ending up in landfills.

ReStore makes the donation process as easy and stress free as possible. You can schedule a free pick up by filling out their donation form and contacting them at 215-739-9300 or restore@habitatphiladelphia.org. There is a list of acceptable items that can help you decipher which furnishings would be the most appropriate for pick up or dropping off.

The ReStore is located in the Kensington section at 2930 Jasper Street, Philadelphia PA 19134, and is open Wednesdays-Saturdays from 10am to 5pm. You can drop by and browse through a wide selection of furniture, home goods, building supplies, and many more items at a discounted rate. You can also be part of the action by volunteering at the store and further helping our collective mission to reduce our environmental impact to ensure our earth is strong and healthy for generations to come.

We couldn’t love the ReStore more if we tried – we encourage you to go check it out for yourself! And the next time you’re getting rid of things around the house, keep ReStore in mind as a sustainable way to give back to fellow Philadelphians.

We’re also excited that Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia will be celebrating America Recycles Day with us, Recyclebank, and the Philadelphia Streets Department on November 15th from 11:00a to 3:00p in Rittenhouse Square – more info to come, but mark that calendar!
